LUKE WELCH
Luke is a performer, originally from England, and has lived near Moffat in Dumfries & Galloway since 2012.
Luke participated in weekly drama workshops at Moffat Youth Theatre (now Studio Moffat) from the ages of 12-15. He also led and supported workshops for young people, while participating in a pilot scheme for a Drama Leaders Award run by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland during 2022. He received a Gold Award for Performance and Leadership the following year. Luke is still involved in the work of Studio Moffat and is now a director of their sister organisation, Make/Change Collective.
Luke completed a short online Digital Promotion for Business course with Glasgow Kelvin College in 2022, and edited and uploaded content for the Tweedsmuir Community Company. He is currently studying a BA (Honours) History course with the Open University.
Luke has enjoyed the art of comedy from a young age, and having been inspired by several comedians in recent years, has performed stand-up comedy routines at the Wigtown Book Festival, Brave New Words and open mic nights hosted by Paragon Music.
In April 2023, Luke participated in the Soundwave project - created to help young people realise their musical talents - led by sound artist Liam Russell. This resulted in the formation a new band, Great Understate. Thanks to this project, they have released two singles, ‘Last Protest’ and ‘Fever’, which can be listened to on all streaming platforms.
More recently, Luke became involved with a new theatre company, ‘Bear Pursuit’, formed by members of PCS. Bear Pursuit aims to bring fresh, energised theatre productions to new and exciting outdoor locations.
